Safety First
Every layer of the Kintrix Rover — hardware, firmware, and industrial design — is purpose-built for safe, unsupervised student use.
Hardware Protection
The Rover board is designed to survive the realities of a classroom — reversed cables, static shocks, and curious hands.
A P-channel MOSFET on the power input prevents damage if the supply is connected backwards — no fuses to replace, no magic smoke.
PTC resettable fuses protect the 3.3 V logic, 5 V peripheral, and motor power rails independently. A short on one rail won't cascade to the others.
TVS diode arrays on every external connector — USB-C, GPIO headers, sensor ports, and motor outputs — guard against electrostatic discharge up to ±8 kV contact.
The DRV8870 H-bridge drivers include built-in over-temperature and over-current protection — they shut down gracefully before damage occurs and auto-recover when cooled.
All components sit beneath a solder mask and conformal coating. Connectors are keyed and recessed — there are no sharp edges or hot surfaces a student can touch.
The board runs on 3.3 V logic with a 6–14 V DC input range — well below the safety extra-low voltage (SELV) threshold. No mains power is ever involved.
Firmware & Software
Kintrix firmware is cryptographically signed and verified at every stage — from power-on to over-the-air updates.
A dedicated hardware security element verifies the firmware signature on every boot. Tampered or unsigned code simply won't run.
Over-the-air updates are cryptographically signed and verified before installation. Devices reject any update that fails signature validation.
Each Kintrix board uses unique cryptographic keys stored in the ATECC608B to authenticate with cloud services — preventing spoofing and unauthorised device connections.
Classroom Ready
Kintrix eliminates the common hazards of electronics in education. No soldering, no loose batteries, no fragile wiring.
Kintrix runs from a regulated DC power supply or USB-C. Schools don't need to purchase, charge, store, or dispose of lithium batteries.
Every connection is plug-and-play. Sensors, motors, and peripherals use keyed connectors that only fit one way — students simply click and go.
JST-XH headers for sensors and screw terminals for motors are rated for thousands of insertion cycles. They're tough enough for daily student use without degrading.
Rounded PCB edges, clearly labelled silk screen, and colour-coded port groupings help students orient the board and connect peripherals without guidance.
Compliance
Kintrix hardware is designed to meet or exceed the following standards:
Certification documentation is available upon request for schools and districts that require compliance records for procurement. Contact us at [email protected] for details.
We're happy to provide detailed safety documentation, test reports, or answer any questions from your school's procurement team.
